theROOTofsports review of Friday June 11th

Welcome to theROOTofsports review of Friday June 11th! Two teams changed conferences today, Izzo still works on a decision, and England prepares for huge world cup match against USA. I'll also fill you in on all the baseball and world cup scores.

World Cup- Friday marked the opening day of the biggest worldwide sporting event the world cup. After all the festivities were done, South Africa kicked off the first game against Mexico. Mexico came out hot with many scoring chances, but South Africa survived the first half without letting in a goal. In the second half South Africa scored a goal and took command of the game. Just as the game seemed to be over, South Africa had a defensive breakdown allowing a 3 on 1 break by the goal and eventually putting the ball in the net with 5 minutes left to play. The game ended up being a 1-1 draw. The second game was France vs Uruguay. This was an all out battle, both teams showing their defensive strength. The game ended without either team scoring a goal in a 0-0 tie. We still have not had a winner in the world cup so far. This is most likely to change tomorrow as group B and one half of group C plays their opening games.

Friday's Scores
Group A
South Africa 1 Mexico 1 F

Group A
France 0 Uruguay 0 F

- Nebraska sent their application to the Big ten Friday to join the conference and all 11 coaches of the Big Ten approved. Nebraska will start Big Ten play in the Fall of 2011. Nebraska's move is predicted to start a massive domino effect on many major school in the Big 12 looking for a new conference. Colorado has already transferred to the Pac 10 on Thursday, Missouri is deciding still weather to join the Big Ten, and Texas along with Texas A&M look for an out. Texas could make an announcement as early as Monday on moving to the Pac 10. A meeting between Texas A&M and Texas was held Thursday to discuss the future of the team's rivalry that has lasted over 100 years. Texas A&M looks to be headed towards the Sec,but they
want to make sure their rivalry with Texas would be secure after a conference move.
- Usc will appeal the accusations brought on their team about violations involving Reggie Bush. The team has been told that they will keep the 2004 AP title. After Usc recieved a two year post season ban from the Ncaa, the Ncaa released a statement allowing all players of the Usc team to transfer if they wanted without suspension.

Izzo- Michigan State along with the Cleveland Cavaliers search for just a hint of a clue on what Tom Izzo will decide regarding coaching the Cavaliers next season. Izzo left Michigan Thursday night to meet with the Cavaliers. Many Michigan state players are convinced the Izzo will take the job as the next Cleavland coach, but the Cavs have not had direct contact with Izzo and are in doubt. Next on the Cavs list is Byron Scott, a former Nba coach and ESPN analyst.
