The ROOT of sports for Monday June 7th

Welcome to theROOTofsports for Monday June 7th! The Cavs made an offer to Izzo today, the Washington Nationals get some young new talent, One Division 1 conference in college football decides NOT to expand, and an NFL team is told to shut down their off season training camp. I'll fill you in on all this breaking news along with todays scores and more in theROOTofsports!

NBA- Sources told ESPN today that the Cleveland Cavilers are interested in Tom Izzo, coach of the Michigan State Spartans, as their new coach. Izzo says that he has no interest at all in coaching in the NBA, at least until he wins another championship with the Spartans. Other names such as Charlotte's Larry Brown and Kentucky coach John Calipari have also been mentioned as Cavs Candidates. Byron Scott of ESPN and Milwaukee assistant Kelvin Sampson are under review as well. The Cavaliers will be persistent on going after Tom Izzone in the future (even tho his contract with the Spartans goes to 2016), as they aim to have a head coach in by the free agent frenzy starting July 1st.
-The New Orleans Hornets plan to introduce Monty Williams as their new head coach on Tuesday. This will be the first head coaching job for Williams.
-Paul Pierce of the Boston Celtics claims that his team isn't going back to L.A. He was heard yelling this in the final minutes of last nights game 2 of the NBA finals as Boston won 103-94. Ray Allen of the Boston Celtics also stood out last night setting a new playoff 3-point record by shooting 8 from downtown. Ray Allen finished the night with 32 points. The Boston Celtics have the next 3 games in Boston Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday.
- The ROOT -the Cleveland Cavaliers are desperately looking for a coach for their organization before July 1st, when all of the Lebron James drama MAINLY begins....as if it hasn't already. They feel like they need someone like Tom Izzo to coach so Lebron feels comfortable with staying with the team, especially if the Cavs get rid of Moe Williams and Delonte West, which would'int be surprising. Getting Izzo will be a long shot for sure.
- I don't quite get Paul pierce basically claiming the Nba title already. You won 1 game! He was just excited that they pulled one off in L.A after getting destroyed in game 1. The last thing Boston needs is to be Conceited in their play. Win two more consecutively and then you can start claiming titles.

NFL-The Baltimore Ravens were forced to shut down their off-season training camp after an unknown player reported a violation of team practice. The violation was related to the amount of time players were spending at the Ravens facility.
- Daunte Culpepper signs a deal with the Ufl today. He plans to play for the SacramentoMountain Lions under his formal coach Dennis Green.
- The Mountain west broke news today stating that they will NOT be expanding their conference.
-THE ROOT- Finally Daunte Culpepper is OUT of the Nfl! He's played horrible ever since he left the Minnesota Vikings a while back. I'm sure he'll find immediate success in the United football league under Dennis Green. I'm just glad we wont be seeing him on t.v for a while.
-Why do things like this happen in the Nfl! of all sports! Shutting down a camp because the players are spending too much time training?? there MUST be more to this story i'm not getting because it seems absolutely crazy! and the worst part is the complaint was supposedly from one of the players! SERIOUSLY! just quit the Nfl! dont force your whole team to shut down their camp! i cant believe its even called a violation!
MLB- The Washington Nationals claim that they have found the ultimate slugger. The Nationals
drafted Bryce Harper as the 1st overall pick of the draft Monday. Harper is only 18 years old after skipping his last 2 years of high school and getting his GED. Harper hit .443 with 31 home runs and 98 Rbi's in his first college season. Harper is expected to have a great future starting off young in the MLB.
- The Sandiego Padres beat the Phillies 3-1 after
Adrien Gonzalez hit a solo home run in the 7th
inning to end Philedelphia pitcher Cole Hamel's no-hit bid.
- Carlos Silva, pitcher of the Chicago Cubs improved his record Monday night to 8-0 after the cubs beat the pirates 6-1.

Tuesday- 15 games are scheduled for Tuesday night highlighted by a showdown in New York when the Mets face the Padres, and a good night-cap game between the Dodgers and Cardinals. Another interesting match up Tuesday night is the Athletics vs. the Angels as L.A tries to extend their winning streak to 7. A team looking to get back on track and back in the NL east picture is the Florida Marlins as they face the Phillies. Tuesday night should provide some good highlights.
